- Winters naturally inspire us to move less and rest more. The darker days encourage slowdown and a natural hibernation effect to hit the senses which is great when we can honor the dark winter rhythm to reflect and rejuvenate. (Except living in modern times means we might still maintain a busy full schedule; messing with our ability to rest and restore.)
- The colder windy weather causes us to naturally gravitate towards heavier more densely nourishing foods like soups, stews, heavier meals. (Except modern cultures encourages tons of heavy processed foods during the holidays turning winter into a season of over-indulgence instead of grounding nourishment.)
- When the light and warmth return it's not uncommon to feel like you're carrying an extra load causing heaviness and stagnation in the mind and body. (When the heaviness and cold combine too much in a system it creates stagnation and biofilm to accumulate contributing to the build up of metabolic waste making thinking cloudy, body heavy, and systems out of whack.)
Late spring's sticky heaviness reminds us to lighten the load and let go.
Keeping activities and eating habits the same heading into spring causes the very thing that helped us ground and restore in the season's past to start to build up excess biofilm that gums up the mind, body, and subtle with sticky metabolism waste we call AMA in ayurvedic medicine.
